Animal Behavior 101

This course is designed for new shelter staff and ACO field personnel, as well as experienced professionals seeking a refresher on the fundamentals of animal behavior. It provides essential knowledge for recognizing and interacting with dogs and cats displaying various behavior types, including fearfulness, aggression, submission, friendliness, and feral tendencies.

Students will learn practical techniques for applying this understanding beyond simply moving an animal from one location to another. The course also covers strategies for handling situations involving multiple behavior types simultaneously, emphasizing teamwork and coordination with other staff members to safely contain, restrain, and move animals in a variety of scenarios.
